Saturday, July 20, 2002We want a lathe so we can make round things. Round shiny things.
if somebody does not give us one, we will be forced to purchase one.
Ed does not want to use Mark's bicycle powered lathe which was his one idea. Ed does not give a good reason for not wanting to use this lathe, yet Mark continues to build things for it.
We have abandoned the bike lathe. It was just too much of a pain in the ass. Then we tryed a bungy/ rope version that was only good for thowing wood across the room.
We restarted and made a complete motorized lathe using a 5 horse power motor. As of yet we are having trouble keeping the pully on. We are gearfull the lathe will chase us around the shop. We tried 1/3 hp at 100rpms due to different sized pulleys. 5 horsepower spins at about 3500 rpms -SCARRY!! We are going to try to make a wood pulley.
